國家衛生研究院「2018精準醫療科技與研發國際研討會」

2018年精準醫療科技與研發國際研討會,10月5日至6日在高雄君鴻酒店盛大舉辦,吸引了近300位產官學研界代表共襄盛舉。本活動由「國家衛生研究院論壇」、「日本東北大學」聯合主辦,協辦單位包含「衛生福利部」、「高雄市政府」、「高雄醫學大學」、「台灣健康資訊產業整合協會」。

「國家衛生研究院論壇」作為衛生福利部的智庫,主導著台灣醫藥研發以及安全衛生的守門員,不遺餘力地協助推動台灣醫藥衛生及健康福祉相關工作。以實證研究方式成功建構跨領域、跨科技、跨單位之政策研議機制。配合行政院「生醫產業創新推動方案」,國家衛生研究院論壇透過與「亞太生醫矽谷精準醫療旗艦計畫」之合作,建立台灣西部由北到南的生醫產業創新聚落,並結合中南部地區之地理資訊系統及健保資料庫探討,將學術研究成果深化至民眾的生活環境、促進生技產業發展與增進國人健康福祉。活動中針對國內精準醫療與人工智慧之發展、健康資料與個資保障等議題均有充分討論。

隨著醫療人工智慧、移動醫療及精準醫療的快速發展,亦帶動醫學資訊分析技術之大量需求。本研討會中探討大數據驅動醫療服務智慧轉型所帶來的挑戰,並深入剖析四大主題:
1. Medical AI
2. Bioinformatics for precision medicine
3. Big data in medicine and healthcare
4. Regulatory process, data safety and security

除邀請各界專家分享國內精準醫療及人工智慧之現況及展望,更邀請政府及主管機關代表參與討論,橫向連結產官學研及民眾,期望能透過資料創新結合科技應用以提升高品質之精準治療及健康照護服務,讓科技發展得以落實到民眾生活之中。

NHRI 2018 Precision Medicine, Technology and Development Symposium: The 4th NHRI-ToMMo Conference

  • Symposium 2 : The  4TH NHRI-TOMMO CONFERENCE

This conference was co-organized by Tohoku Medical Megabank Organization (ToMMo) of Japan and National Health Research Institutes (NHRI) Forum of Taiwan with support of Kaohsiung Medical University and Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) Taiwan, and sponsored by Ministry of Health and Welfare.

NHRI-ToMMo Conference is a series of annual meetings started in 2015, and dedicated to present and highlight research findings and implementation experiences that help inform the roadmap for deploying precision medicine and continuous learning with the goal of improving the value of health and welfare services available to all citizens in Taiwan

Since the 1st annual meeting held three years ago, NHRI-ToMMo Conference has evolved into a remarkable platform for interchanging ideas and information between research partners in U.S., Japan and Taiwan. Building on the success of previous conferences, the 4th NHRI-ToMMo brought together ten leading researchers from Japan and Taiwan to present and discuss range of issues with over one hundred attendees. These issues were related to two main themes of this Conference: first, how will patients benefit from cutting edge biotech, and second, how large-scale research will revolutionize public health practice.

    • KEAP1-NRF2 System Regulating Oxidative Stress Response

      Abstract:
      Many somatic missense mutations identified in KEAP1 and NRF2 genes disrupt the KEAP1-NRF2 complex and result in constitutive activation of NRF2. Elevated expression of NRF2 target genes confers advantages on the growth of cancer cells. Here, we demonstrated the potential of the KEAP1-NRF2 system as a new avenue to the understanding of the signal transduction and regulatory process underlying the stress response and cancer progression.
          
          
    • Genetic Diagnosis of Human Disease by WGS: Basis of Precision Medicine

      Abstract: Over the past year, our Precision Medicine Program has leveraged whole genome sequencing (WGS) to analyze over one hundred families affected with rare or undiagnosed diseases, including those of immunodeficiency, epilepsy, spinocerebellar ataxia, hearing impairment and developmental delay and intellectual disability. Moreover, WGS-based approach has been extended to characterize the genomic landscape of different subtypes of cancers. In this conference, we hope to share our experiences working with clinicians and patients, and report some of the findings that were previously unaware of.

    • Cancer Precision Medicine in Japan: Present State and Future

      Abstract: Recent progress in next generation sequencing (NGS) and development of molecular targeting agents in cancer therapy facilitate the application of NGS to choose appropriate therapeutic modalities for cancer patients. This lecture introduces the present situation of cancer precision medicine in Japan and discuss what will come to the next for the molecular diagnostics in cancer.

          

    • Initiative on Rare and Undiagnosed Diseases (IRUD)

      Abstract: In Japan, Agency for Medical Research and Development (AMED) has launched Initiative on Rare and Undiagnosed Disease (IRUD) and Nan-Byo for rare diseases. Achievements in genomic study of two pediatric Nan-Byo, steroid-sensitive nephrotic disease and galactosemia, will be shared at the conference.

          
    • Second Generation Cancer Immunotherapy

      Abstract: Cancer immunotherapy is to apply therapeutic strategies to harness the power and specificity of the immune system to target cancers. We have shown that radiation induces immunogenic cell death and inflammatory reactions within the tumor, which in combination with local injection of immunostimulating agents, elicited antitumor immunities and resulted in tumor regression in animals bearing large subcutaneous or orthotopic cancers. These results suggest that a combinatorial strategy that could reset the intratumoral immunosuppressive state and stimulate activation of antitumor cellular immunity is capable of improving the therapeutic efficacy against large established tumors.

    • Next Generation Sequencing and Genome-Wide Data Analysis for Glaucoma

      Abstract: Glaucoma is a chronic and progressive group of optic neuropathies affecting more than 60 million people globally. Though glaucoma is a genetically complex trait with substantial fraction exhibiting a significant heritability, the exact etiology of glaucoma remains obscure. Here, we present our findings regarding the genetic background of open-angle glaucoma and congenital glaucoma in a Japanese population.

          
    • Rationale, Progress and Perspective of the TMM BirThree Cohort Study

      Abstract: Cohort studies contribute to monitoring persons’ health statuses and implementing suitable time interventions. As of March 2017, 74,112 persons have been recruited in the Tohoku Medical Megabank Birth and Three-Generation Cohort Study (TMM BirThree Cohort Study). This cohort enables us to challenge elucidation of the missing heritability as well as of the effects of disaster exposure.

          
    • Environmental, Epigenetic, and Genetic Interactions and Human Health Protection

      Abstract: Recently, the fast-improved technique of genome-wide DNA methylation has provided the opportunity to examine the association between altered DNA methylation patterns with the environmental exposure. We retrieved archived cord blood DNA samples from our 18-year follow-up birth cohort, measured more than 450,000 CpG sites, and identified 25 CpG sites whose methylation levels in blood were significantly correlated with prenatal di-ethyl-hexyl phthalate exposure. Our findings shed light on how early-life environmental factors may have long-term health effects through altered DNA methylations.

             
    • Precision Medicine in Medically Assisted Reproduction

      Abstract: The technological advances (e.g., next generation sequencing, expanded carrier screening, and preimplantation genetic testing) have advanced our understanding of the underlying causes of infertility and other types of reproductive failure. We here review current barriers, paradigm shifts in the field of assisted reproductive technology, and changes expect to happen in the future of fertility industry.

             
    • Genetic Diagnosis of Undiagnosed Disease by WGS

      Abstract: A large number of rare diseases are not well characterized or genetically undefined. To help clinicians manage the patients with undiagnosed disease, we have established the Taiwan Rare Disease Network (TRDN) to recruit patients with undiagnosed, genetic or severe diseases. As of October 2018, we recruited 205 families from seven hospitals, completed the WGS analysis on 44 families, and identified the causal mutations in 28 families. Here, we demonstrate how whole genome sequencing can find answers to medically resistant epilepsy syndrome and paroxysmal kinesigenic dyskinesia syndrome that is genetically undefined.
